Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA)

Feminist Leadership Development

Four-day capacity building forum was held from 14th-17th February 2012 in Entebbe Uganda. It brought together 24 participants who had previously participated at the two AWLIs on Gender and Long Term Forced Migration; West Africa AWLI and East and Horn of Africa AWLI respectively. The Forum provided a platform for information exchange, knowledge and experiences on good practices on gender and forced migration.

The major outcome of the forum was the development of a four year action plan on forced migration.

Five day training for sex workers (SW) activists and peer educators was held in Kisumu from 11th -16th September 2011 under the theme: Leadership and Movement Building. The AWLI brought together 19 participants mainly from Boarder towns of Kenya: Kisumu, Busia and Mumias. In addition, 6 peer educators from the Bar Hostess in Nairobi attended the training. The training was also attended by two AWLI alumni from Uganda and Kenya who shared their experiences and facilitated sessions on: Collective Organising and Networking.

The overall objective of the training was to strengthen the Sex Workers movement in Kenya (based on the work AMwA has already done with the SW movement in East Africa over the past two years).
