Expertise: Environmental law

Tatenda Muponde is an environmental lawyer, and holds an LLB (with distinction) and an LLM in Environmental Law (with distinction) from the University of the Witwatersrand. Tatenda’s LLM dissertation focused on artisanal and small-scale mining and the notion of equitable access to mineral resources in the South African Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act. She works as an attorney in the Mining Programme at the Centre for Environmental Rights, which is a non-profit organisation and law clinic based in Cape Town, South Africa. Which helps communities and civil society organisations in South Africa to realise their Constitutional right to a healthy environment by advocating and litigating for environmental justice.

She is passionate about environmental law and hopes to make a significant contribution in ensuring that there is compliance with environmental laws, transparency and that the South becomes an environmentally just society.
